Nesbitt & Parrinello has powered historic wins for Democrats in Virginia.
Electing Progressive Woman District Attorney In Virginia
In 2019, one of the nation’s largest down-ballot IE campaigns engaged Nesbitt & Parrinello to support the candidacy of progressive women attorneys across the country. In Virginia, these included Parisa Dehghani-Tafti in Arlington County. We provided research and fact-checking to support Dehghani-Tafti and her progressive platform, including marijuana reform, voting rights, and police accountability. In a closely-watched election, Dehghani-Tafti beat out incumbent Theo Stamos, who had been the Commonwealth Attorney since 2011. In 2023, research by Nesbitt & Parrinello again supported Dehghani-Tafti’s election.
Multi-Million Dollar Virginia IE Victory
In 2012, Nesbitt & Parrinello advised several of the nation’s largest labor unions in their Independent Expenditure campaigns. We conducted investigations, fact-checking, and rapid response communications in statewide races across the state of Virginia, securing victories for labor interests in the Old Dominion. There, we supported a $2.25M ad buy that helped swing the election for Senator Tim Kaine.
Winning Locally — Taking Back a State Legislative Chamber in Virginia
From 2007, Nesbitt & Parrinello provided over 60 research reports and memos to Virginia Democrats, achieving historic victories in the state legislature. We conducted thorough on-the-ground research across the state, pulling records from the rural communities of Southwest Virginia to the urban counties of northern Virginia. Leaving no stone unturned, we uncovered targets’ attorney histories of representing child support evaders, domestic abusers, and illicit drug dealers.
Our research of a four-term incumbent Delegate in the Virginia House connected the dots among the Delegate, his former consulting firm, contributions to his campaign, and a state contract, implicating the candidate in an eight-year-old ethics controversy. Nesbitt & Parrinello uncovered evidence that the candidate colluded with political allies to award a taxpayer-funded no-bid contract to his campaign contributors.
In 2007, Nesbitt & Parrinello worked to flip the Virginia state legislature, helping Democrats not only take back the Senate for the first time in a decade but also to pick up four seats in the House. Thanks to powerful research and messaging, these victories represented the largest gain in the House since the Watergate scandal.
